SUMMARY
Responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials from vendors. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the distribution industry. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity is expected. Must be able to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment with little direct supervision. Must have the ability and desire to provide outstanding customer service.

There is the ability to be promoted from one level of Product Manager to another. As this transition occurs, all responsibilities of the previous level are transferred and there are additional responsibilities added.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs a variety of tasks and purchasing assignments. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: Component sourcing, negotiating pricing, issuing and maintaining purchase orders, expediting, maintaining proper inventory levels, and the disposition of returned goods.

Additional responsibilities include: meeting with vendors to review products and company performance; promoting product lines with sales staff; and analyzing inventory turns and gross profit. May also hold dual title with another area of responsibility and back-up other Product Managers.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
Experience: 2-5 years in the field or in a related area.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos. Good communication skills are a must. Needs to communicate internally with various departments and with vendors via phone, email and in meetings.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.


REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.


OTHER SKILLS
Must have a basic level of product knowledge, good negotiating skills which encompasses more than piece-price cost, and the ability and desire to proactively look for additional ways to improve overall costs of doing business with vendors and within Marsh. Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook & Excel, and have moderate organization and follow-up techniques.
